The municipality, which lies within the Duin- en Bollenstreek, covers an area of 16.05 km (6.20 sq mi) of which 0.36 km (0.14 sq mi) is water. Its population was 22,982 in 2021. It is world famous for the Keukenhof flower gardens, a 32 ha park filled with flowering bulbs in Spring, attracting over 800,000 visitors per year. Outside the flowering season (end of March - early May) there is much less reason to visit Lisse.
